Have You Been Saved?

I hate that question. When I’ve heard it in the past, especially within the first five minutes of meeting someone, my first instinct has been to run. Not anymore. Now I take a deep breath and say, “Yes.” Does that mean I’m now a Christian? Heavens, no! But I have been saved. How? It’s really none of your business. Why? Because my beliefs, religious or otherwise are PERSONAL unless I choose to share them with you. Don’t ask. Trust me, you’re not going to be happy with the answer. But I am.

The Air Force Academy has overlooked a problem within their corps of cadets, one that some say is caused by the President’s outspokenness about his religion. There seems to be a little evangelizing going on. Evangelical Christian cadets have been forcing “the Word” on others, and punishing those who do not attend chapel. Has the President given the Evangelical Christian Cadets a mandate by his example? It is no longer safe to assume that our non-evangelical Christian Cadets at United States Military Academies are being respected as Americans, free to make their own choices and live their own lives. Is this a visible symptom of a larger problem? Is religious freedom weakening in our country? And what on earth has happened to the separation of church and state?

I am not perfect. I do my best to practice what I preach, but I am human. My mantra is, "DO NO HARM". I may not always succeed, but I will always try. My goal is to be a better person today than I was yesterday.
