Religion and Fascism

Governments in fascist countries will often try to exploit the main religion of the people in order to justify their actions or sway public opinion. Issues like gay marriage, abortion rights, and euthanasia become more about defending one’s religious beliefs than defending one’s right to be free. If it’s against the main religion of the people, it’s wrong, even if the major religious ideas go against previous policies or actions. There is not room for discussion. Government leaders will use religious rhetoric and terminology to further their agendas, whether they actually believe in the religion or not. Leaders such as Pat Robertson emerge and take controversial stands that government officials can agree or disagree with, allowing them to pretend they had nothing to do with raising the issue.

“Fascism will not return wearing swastikas and brown shirts. It’s ideological inheritors will cloak themselves in the language of the Bible, they will come carrying crosses and chanting the Pledge of Allegiance.” James Luther Adams

I am not perfect. I do my best to practice what I preach, but I am human. My mantra is, "DO NO HARM". I may not always succeed, but I will always try. My goal is to be a better person today than I was yesterday.
